Skagway Port Development Steering Committee
Mission Statement:
Prepare an actionable business plan with a conceptual port arrangement drawing the Municipality may utilize to make sound port fiscal decisions, advancing the interests of the Municipality and the region.
The economic livelihood of the Municipality of Skagway and Yukon Territory depends on a thriving and competitive inter-modal port facility designed to provide efficient, cost-effective transshipment of bulk mineral concentrates and general cargo.
Committee Description:
The Skagway Port Development Steering Committee will draft and pursue public acceptance of a comprehensive port development plan that addresses current and expected future marine transportation needs for the region. The port development plan will consider all physical improvements and enhancements required of the community's waterfront infrastructure to attract new customers and establish the Port of Skagway as competitive transshipping gateway connecting the Yukon Territory and the Pacific Rim. The Committee will consider the information prepared in the Yukon Port Access Study to develop an overarching business plan for operation of the port.
The initial responsibility of the committee is to provide planning guidance and advice to the Municipality of Skagway thru its Manager and Mayor. Decisions will be by consensus and will represent the best judgment of the committee. Committee members will be appointed by the Mayor and serve at his pleasure. The Municipality of Skagway Assembly will remain the final authority for Borough government.
